This calculator uses a base life expectancy of 73 years for males and 79 years for females, aligned with recent U.S. actuarial data. Adjustments are applied based on validated longevity research:
- BMI Adjustment: Calculated from your height and weight. Normal BMI (18.5β24.9) adds 0 years, underweight (-2), overweight (-1), obese (-3).
- Exercise Adjustments: Never exercising (-3 years), 1β2x/week (0), 3β4x/week (+2), 5+x/week (+3). Higher intensity adds up to +2 additional years.
- Lifestyle Adjustments: Current smoking (-5 years), former smoking (-1). Heavy alcohol use (-3 years).
- Wellness Adjustments: Excellent diet (+2), poor diet (-2). 7β9 hours of sleep (+1), <6 or >10 hours (-1). Low stress (+1), high stress (-2).
- Family History Adjustment: 50% of the difference between your parentsβ average life expectancy and your base life expectancy is added to your total.
