How to Use This Tool

Pace & Time Method
Distance = Total Running Time (minutes) ÷ Average Pace (minutes per unit distance)
Total running time is converted to minutes by adding hours multiplied by 60, minutes, and seconds divided by 60. The initial distance is calculated in the same unit as your pace (miles for min/mile, kilometers for min/km), then converted to your selected output unit using standard conversion factors.
Stride Length & Steps Method
Distance = Stride Length × Total Steps
The distance is first calculated in the unit of your stride length, then converted to your selected output unit using standard length conversions.

Stride length can vary significantly between runners: the average recreational runner has a stride length of 2.5–3 feet (30–36 inches), while competitive runners may have longer strides. Measure your stride length on flat ground for the most accurate results.
Pace estimates should account for elevation changes, wind resistance, and fatigue: outdoor runs with hills will have slower average paces than flat treadmill runs. Use this tool to plan training routes, but adjust for real-world conditions during actual runs.
